Setting Up Serial Tagging Assignments

Serial tagging assignments provide better control and improve productivity by enabling serial tracking only at material issues for the following transaction types: WIP issue, return to vendor, and field service usage. You can assign serial tagging for an item (typically when you create or update an item) in the Serial Tagging Assignments window. Serial tagging assignments can be defined at the following levels:

After an item is serial tagged, whenever an eligible transaction for that item occurs such as a return to vendor issue, the system prompts the operator to enter the serial number for the item.

Note: After an item is set up for serial tagging transactions, the Serial tagging at Issue check box (a display-only field) appears as selected on the Inventory tab of the Master Item window.

Restrictions

The serial tagging feature is applicable only to non-WMS (Oracle Warehouse Management), non-OPM (Oracle Process Manufacturing), non-WSM (Oracle Web Services Manager), non-EAM ( Oracle Enterprise Asset Management), and non-PJM (Oracle Project Manufacturing) organizations. If any of the preceding applications is enabled for an organization, then serial tagging is NOT applicable for all applications in that organization. For example, if organization M1 is an WMS-enabled organization, then serial tagging is not applicable for all applications in the M1 organization.

Serial numbers are not tracked for material that is transacted within the organization from one subinventory to another.
