Serial tagging assignments provide better control and improve productivity by enabling serial tracking only at material issues for the following transaction types: WIP issue, return to vendor, and field service usage. You can assign serial tagging for an item (typically when you create or update an item) in the Serial Tagging Assignments window. Serial tagging assignments can be defined at the following levels:
Master item
Organization item
Item template
After an item is serial tagged, whenever an eligible transaction for that item occurs such as a return to vendor issue, the system prompts the operator to enter the serial number for the item.
Note: After an item is set up for serial tagging transactions, the Serial tagging at Issue check box (a display-only field) appears as selected on the Inventory tab of the Master Item window.
When enabling serial tagging assignments at either the Master Item or Organization Item levels, either No Control or At Sales Order Issue must be selected in the Generation field (Serial region) on the Inventory tab (select the Inventory tab on the Master Item window or the Organization Item window).
Navigate to the Serial Tagging Assignments window.
Select the transaction type to identify when serial number tagging occurs for the selected item:
WIP Issue
When WIP issue is serial tagged for an item, during WIP issue, the system will prompt you to enter serial numbers and the same numbers will be recorded in the serial history. If returning the material back to inventory (with reference to the original issue transactions), the original serial numbers need to be returned as well.
Return to Vendor
Enables you to tag serial numbers only at the time of returning the goods to supplier and not at receipt.
Sales Order Pick: Enables serial tagging for a staging transfer on a sales order.
Internal Order Pick: Enables serial tagging for a staging transfer on an internal order.
Field Service Usage
Enables you to set the serial tagging at field service issue for the items with serial control.
Click Save to save the serial tagging assignment(s).
Serial tagging will be supported for seeded (system) transaction types only.
Oracle Project Manufacturing, Unit Number control is not supported.
Use the following procedures to copy items and their serial tagging assignments:
Copying item templates using the Copy From window.
Copying items /attributes using the Item Attribute Copy window.
The serial tagging feature is applicable only to non-WMS (Oracle Warehouse Management), non-OPM (Oracle Process Manufacturing), non-WSM (Oracle Web Services Manager), non-EAM ( Oracle Enterprise Asset Management), and non-PJM (Oracle Project Manufacturing) organizations. If any of the preceding applications is enabled for an organization, then serial tagging is NOT applicable for all applications in that organization. For example, if organization M1 is an WMS-enabled organization, then serial tagging is not applicable for all applications in the M1 organization.
Serial numbers are not tracked for material that is transacted within the organization from one subinventory to another.
